Are Celebrity Workouts and Diets Effective?

Are Celebrity Workouts and Diets Effective?

There's no doubt that Hollywood actors and actresses develop some of the best bodies for their roles.   It often prompts the question of how these stars of Hollywood workout.  People become obsessed with applying the workout of their favorite star to their own workout efforts. People often fail to think about one important question: do these celebrity workouts and diets really work?  Can you truly attain the body you want by using a Hollywood workout?

Many of the star's bodies took years to develop.   Decades ago, Arnold Schwarzenegger set the standard for a great body with every red blooded American male seeking to look like the Terminator.  But today, you don't see too many celebrity bodybuilders; the look faded out with time.  When Brad Pitt played Tyler Durden in Fight Club, the look changed again.  He had extremely low body fat, well defined muscles, and still maintained that dangerous look.  This look became the goal for many years, and is still sought after today.

In the decade since the movie's release, even more great bodies have emerged from Hollywood.  After his role in Fight Club, Pitt continued to sculpt his body, making the muscles more prominent for his appearance in the movie Troy.  In Blade Trinity, Ryan Reynolds boasts a truly impressive display of abs.   The whole cast of the movie 300, including Gerard Butler, built great bodies worthy of the Spartans.  Taylor Lautner, one of the actors in the popular Twilight movie, underwent a truly astonishing physical transformation for the role of Jacob Black.

Surely if all of these Hollywood actors can get such great bodies, there must be some secret out there that is common to all of the workout routines we hear about.  It seems, however, that celebrity workouts and diets vary dramatically from star to star.  Some stars work on full body training programs, while others exercise one major muscle group each day.   Some celebrities exercise for 2-3 hours per day; others simply do 30-40 minutes of high intensity training.  Some stars eat regular diets, limiting sugar and alcohol; others graze throughout the day and eat many smaller meals.

The bodies we see on the screen are all obtained by a variety of diets and programs.  How can the results be the same when the methods are so different?  Dedication and hard work.   Celebrities have a distinct advantage in getting great bodies, and it's not genetics.   They simply have the time, money, and desire to get the best body possible.  If you were offered millions of dollars to build a great body in a few months, you'd figure out how to do it - even if it meant you had to get up early, work out for hours, or dramatically restrict your diet.

Celebrities have plenty of time to spend getting nice bodies, so they have a lot of room for error in their exercise routines.   In other words, even the worst workout routine combined with a reasonable diet plan will help someone get in shape if they put enough time and effort into it.  In addition, many stars have nutritionists and personal trainers to help them meet their goals. Most of us average folks, however, will never have the money or the time or the personalized help to be successful with these routines.  With limited time and money, it is not hard to make a crucial mistake when planning a workout routine.

Can a Hollywood workout help you achieve your fitness goals at all? Any fitness program will work for you with enough dedication, and that is about all we can really learn from celebrity workouts and diets.  In order to exercise efficiently, however, you can't just simply follow your favorite star's diet program or workout.  You may not be able to commit as much time to exercising.  All people are not created the same, so what works for them might not do the job for you.  Instead of making a Hollywood workout your goal, why not focus instead on the look that you wish to achieve?

Dave has been an avid fitness fanatic for the past 15 years.  He aims to maintain a lean, athletic look through diet and exercise without spending hours in the gym.

Many of the fitness tips he provides may seem unconventional, but you can't use a bodybuilding workout to look like an Abercrombie model.

Dave hopes to help his readers by providing no-nonsense tips highlighting what works, and what doesn't work, when it comes to getting in shape.

Do you wonder how celebrities manage to maintain their fabulous physiques? It's not as complicated as you may think. Find out how you can do the same thing and lose weight in the process.

In the traditional way of thinking a weight-loss supplement was supposed to play a 'supplementary' role to diet and exercise in the loss of weight endeavor. A person who was looking to lose weight was usually advised to enlist the help of a supplement for loss of weight of course in addition to a diet that was conducive to their weight loss goal and ideally a good exercise regime. The combination of diet exercise and weight-loss supplement was in most cases guaranteed to deliver loss of weight.

Many companies and individuals want you to believe that natural weight loss is difficult to achieve but it's just a case of not eating as much and having enough regular exercise; however most ignore this recommendation. You would think this simple set of instructions should be easy to follow; however currently 35 percent of Americans are unable to prevent being overweight!

Protein plays a pivotal role in weight loss. It helps you feel full satisfied and energetic. Combined with a sensible fitness program a protein-rich food plan complete with healthy carbohydrates can help you drop unwanted pounds.

The problem with obesity emerged even before the first World War and has continually increased exponentially in many Western countries. People suffering from clinical obesity are getting younger and younger and mortality rates are of course inversely affected. Sufferers of clinical obesity often suffer from a myriad of associate illnesses such as coronary heart disease diabetes and an increased risk of stroke and heart attack. Self esteem and weight loss is not just about appearance. Society's prejudgments may be harsh at best but at the same time it's a good way of encouraging especially the young ones to keep their weight under control.

You may be desperate to lose some weight but may not know whether there are any conveniently-located weight loss centers in our neighborhood and even if they are how to go about joining such a faculty. Here are some tips to get you started.

The Irresistible Attraction Of Hollywood / Celebrity Diets

The Irresistible Attraction Of Hollywood / Celebrity Diets

There is no business like show business, or so the line goes, and this applies even to Hollywood/celebrity diets. After all seeing glamorous and super fit stars sharing the secrets of celebrity diet has an appeal all its own that just cannot be matched by ordinary models in commercials.

But those who wish to diet like the stars have a big problem. The media darlings among the celebrities, or those who get the most attention, are always changing and this happens to the best of popular diets in Hollywood as well. The best Hollywood diets are constantly changing, which makes it quite difficult to decide which is truly the best of the best celebrity diets.

This does not seem to deter the fans of Hollywood/ Celebrity diets because their numbers are actually increasing. Some celebrities who have been covered in the news quite recently because of their healthy and fit appearance are Jennifer Garner, Ashley Williams and Heather Graham among others. They have shared a number of diet tips and recipes to a public who are only too eager to gobble up all the information.

The results do speak for themselves and since these celebrities need to keep themselves fit and buff if they are to remain in demand, one can be reasonably sure that the diets do work. Perhaps it only becomes a problem when people are so quick to switch from one diet to another, not giving enough time for a programmed diet to produce good results. Note though that this applies only in cases where a celebrity endorsed diet is one that is quite strict about the kinds of food you can eat. For instance, one may be from the low carb school while another might be from the vegetarian school. In this case, quickly shifting from one to the other might produce significant side effects or not produce anything good at all.

In order to get the true benefits of weight loss, one must evaluate the suitability of the diet to their own needs and situation. What is good for Jennifer Garner is not necessarily good for you, regardless of the fact that you may hold her in such high esteem. Don't treat diets as fads because to do so will only result in unremarkable results. Pick a diet well and stick to it until you either see good results or you decide that a newer diet might be better. Better not because of the endorser but because of the merits of the diet itself.

Yes Hollywood/celebrity diets can be very appealing but always remember, in this case, you are picking a diet and not the star.

Our website www.Best-Fat-Loss-Solution.com can help you pick the best diet for you, and you can be sure that some of the most effective diets can be found here.

Crash Diets And Fad Diets And the Hollywood Diet-The Dangers

Crash Diets And Fad Diets And the Hollywood Diet-The Dangers

The Hollywood diet for example, which consists mainly of different fruit juices, only supplies you with about 400 calories per day. When you compare this figure with the average daily calorie intake for an adult of 2000 you can see that this is just plain silly. You cannot manage on 400 calories per day for very long, and you cannot exist on cabbage soup for the rest of your life.

Crash diets dehydrate you, whilst low calorie diets put your body into starvation mode, slowing your metabolism since your body thinks it's starving and tries to conserve its energy supplies. This causes your weight loss to plateau and you are unable to lose any more weight. Very high protein diets can lead to a deficiency of some micro-nutrients and put a strain on the kidneys.

What you need is a sensible diet based on the sound principle that the amount of your daily energy expenditure needs to be greater than your energy equivalent of the food you eat. This, coupled with an increase in exercise levels to boost your metabolism, will lead to a steady, albeit gradual loss of weight.

Yes, it has to be gradual. You cannot really expect to lose more than a couple of pounds per week on a sensible diet, and so it will take several months to lose an appreciative amount of weight. This is better, surely, than making yourself ill or getting nowhere at all?

You need therefore to cut back your daily calorie input by a small amount, probably 2-300 calories, whilst maintaining a healthy and varied diet. The key to a healthy diet is that it should contain roughly one third of each of the main groups of foods, protein, carbohydrates, and fats, and not too much of any one group.

Protein is essential for body growth and repair, but you don't need to worry about getting sufficient as it is present in meat, fish, and many vegetarian foods such as beans and pulses. Most people get enough protein in their diet without having to think about it. Unfortunately, some meats, particularly red meats, are high in unhealthy fats called saturated fats, so for this reason it is best to moderate consumption of red meat.

Fat has had a bad press over the last few decades, being overly blamed for obesity amongst our Western society. Eat too much fat and you get fat, sounds plausible, but many now think that it's not quite as simple as that. The fact is that we need some fat in our diets, for normal brain and nervous system function, for the utilisation of fat soluble vitamins, amongst other things. Fat is also a source of energy. Too much fat may be bad for us, and certainly too much saturated fat, since this is implicated in the formation of atheroma, causing artery and heart disease.

It is now recognised by many that carbohydrates are the main culprits when it comes to putting on excess weight in our Western society. Because carbohydrates are cheaper to produce than protein, they are incorporated by food manufacturers into almost all their foodstuffs, from tomato sauce, breakfast cereal, ready-meals, canned beans, to the more obvious cakes, biscuits, and breads.

Moreover, these carbohydrates are refined, which means, despite the name, that they are actually bad for us. This is because they are so rapidly digested and absorbed by the body that they cause sudden surges in blood sugar levels, which is not a healthy state of affairs.

Our blood sugar levels need to stay fairly constant, and repeated sudden surges have to be corrected by our body's regulatory system using insulin. Excess glucose in the blood is removed, converted to fat, and, because there is no immediate need for it to be used for energy, it is converted to fat, and stored in the body leading to weight gain.

Our healthy diet then, should be one where calories are reduced, mainly at the expense of refined carbohydrates, but still consist of roughly one third each of protein, carbohydrate, and fat, plus plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables for their essential content of vitamins, minerals, and fibre.

The diet I have described is virtually the same as the Mediterranean diet, incorporating as it does, lean protein, mono-saturated oils such as olive oil, and lots of fresh fruit and vegetables. If you cut back on refined carbohydrates, substituting whole-grain breads and pasta for white, and copy the diet of the Mediterranean people, you can lose weight while staying healthy.

Discovering diets that work and ignoring those that never will

Discovering diets that work and ignoring those that never will

The First Step: Filtering The Noise.

With the vast amount of dieting information becoming available month by month online and in the media, discovering diets that work and choosing the best diet for your health & well-being is a seriously daunting exercise indeed.

It comes as no shock that there are such a number of diet and well-being options in the marketplace; As consumers we spend about billion on fat loss, health and dieting every year.

Unfortunately for the inexperienced dieter, this is just where the confusion sets in, with marketing much of the time succeeding over real-world results. This can create a very difficult situation for dieters before they even begin.

Hopefully I can clear up the diet myths and assist you on the right track to choosing the actual diets that work.

Hype diets (commonly known as fad diets) can be very recognizable and in my professional opinion as a health and nutrition adviser should be avoided.

Diets that exhibit fad traits normally begin their rise to popularity from either self proclaimed diet "gurus" or high profile celebrities leaking a diet discovery that has seen them substantially reduce body size, become very much healthier, or easily lose massive amounts of weight in a very short space of time. You of course will have heard of these kinds of diets in droves, usually published in regular gossip magazines and often being praised on television talk shows - sometimes making broadcast news.

As a health professional who is well versed in the nutrition and diet industry, I'm going to expose to you Hollywood's well kept dieting secret and explain why the initial step in choosing the diets that work is to avoid the hype!

In my experience as a practicing nutrition and health consultant providing services to a lot of household names, I have experienced first hand the great amount of individual and team work carried out in successful A-List health and dieting. - Not to forget the thousands of dollars stars are happy to put towards the experts to make sure it's working right from day one.

More often than not when a high profile person is undertaking their diet in preparation for a major movie role or awards event, they'll take the advice of professionals, are hand-held through tailored and time-proven diet programs (the diets that work), and will of course pay a lofty price for the guidance!

Enter the marketeers....

The quick fix diets that celebrities then lay claim to after achieving 'outstanding' results are time and time again nothing more than big dollar deals and face-to-product arrangements created by management companies and advertising giants. The next thing you know, a brand new fashion diet is given all the credit and announced as the 'last diet you'll ever need'.

just like many may have been a bit disbelieving that top model Rachel Hunter was actually happy to use supermarket grade shampoo every day in the 90's, I can tell you that quick-fix and fad diets are not what are responsible for causing celebrities to look extraordinary in magazines and on the red carpet!

Now that we can recognize and steer clear of the diets that hardly ever work, how do we go about finding those that will? The next part in this article will show us the time-tested diets that work and deciding on the ones that can work for you

Best Hollywood Diets

Best Hollywood Diets

Celebrities have always been idolized not just because of their performances but primarily because of their looks and their very well maintained bodies. Common people just dream of having a figure like these celebrities. It is actually a miracle how the celebrities shed off impressive amounts of pounds and get in shape in the quickest possible time. The answer to these questions lay in the diets that these celebrities follow. It is also important to note that there are some factors that motivate these celebrities to keep in shape. These are:

 1. Incentive: the celebrities have nearly a 7-figure payout. This payout is for their looks and their glamour. Thus it acts as a strong incentive point to motivate them to keep their bodies toned and maintained. So to lose weight one must have a strong personal incentive.

 2. Support: celebrities can have the best in the world and this applies to the weight loss support from nutrition experts, dieticians and trainers. As they have access to all the luxuries in the world, they can afford to hire the best of trainers who would chalk out diet plans and exercises as per individual needs.

Here are the tips that most Hollywood celebrities follow in order to look like the way they do:

 A. No eating: it seems that many celebrities suffer from eating disorders. Many of them think that if they will eat, they would become fat and lose their job to others.

 B. Workout as per the need: the celebrities tend to exercise as per the need. They adjust themselves to their character and workout as the need arises.

 C. Surgery: if at all the diet plans cannot be followed, the celebrities always have the option of going under the knife, meaning going for a surgery. Surgery is always there as a backup plan when the weight does not goes off naturally.

 D. Cross training: even if a celebrity is motivated enough to exercise, he goes in for a variety of workout plans rather than sticking to one. This eases the monotony and brings a fresh approach to exercising.

 E. Only natural food: the diet plans of mostly all celebrities consist of natural foods and white flour foods are out of the equation. Processed white sugar and white food such as breads, cakes and candies are a big no-no.

 F. Muscle building: most male celebrities are more concerned with muscle building than weight watching. The muscle to fat balance is what is important.

 G. Yoga: many celebrities have realized the benefits of some of the Indian form of exercising such as yoga. Yoga not only rejuvenates the body, but also the mind and soul. Celebrities are fast realizing the importance of yoga and have hired personal yoga teachers to train them.

It is true that these well-toned celebrities are more motivated than others, but it is actually a part and parcel of their profession. Nobody would like to watch an ugly unfit person on the screen. So, it is natural for them to be extra-caring and careful for their bodies. Another fact is that they do have more time and money than the rest of the world. They can get the best of personal trainers and health experts to guide them through their weight losing regime.

Celebrity Diets: Battle of the Bulge Goes Hollywood

Celebrity Diets: Battle of the Bulge Goes Hollywood

As a society, we look up to celebrities and make them our personal idols. There is always something they have that we want, be it their stylish haircut, flawless skin, sparkling smile, or shapely body. We are always eager to learn about the latest celebrity diets, trainers, and weight loss tips. Marketing teams not only know this, but they also study it extensively in order to take full advantage of our wanting nature. Companies use celebrities to get their products noticed, and to lend credibility to their advertising campaigns.

Both Jenny Craig and Nutrisystem have been on the market for a very long time, and have proven successful results. However, a company in any industry needs to distinguish itself from its competitors in order to maximize sales. This is why companies employ big names to push their product, hoping that a pretty face and a dusting of star power will induce the consumer to choose them over the competition.

Jenny Craig celebrity diet

Weight loss guru Jenny Craig brought her commercial weight loss program to the American public in 1985. It has been a commercial powerhouse and one of the more popular celebrity diets ever since. It involves a three-step program:

The first step is learning how and when to eat the pre-packaged meals. The second step is learning how to integrate regular exercise into your life. The third step is learning how to maintain momentum in order to keep the weight off.

Kirstie Alley

In December 2004, Jenny Craig Inc. announced that it had signed on Kirstie Alley to be their spokesperson. At the time, Kirstie was at her heaviest weight of 220 pounds. She was gracing the covers of numerous magazines showcasing her weight problem. Her weight issues were being talked about on almost every entertainment talk show and celebrity gossip magazine. She had also burst back into showbiz with her new television show "Fat Actress", which focused on the weight problem of the main character. Kirstie was once again in the public eye, and a critical eye it was. Jenny Craig saw the potential financial gain for her company in contracting Kirstie to promote a celebrity diet. Not only was Kirstie constant magazine fodder, thus virtually guaranteeing substantial exposure, but she was also well-known and loved for her role on the long-running program "Cheers" as the sassy, sultry Rebecca Howe. Kirstie Alley has since lost 75 pounds.

In April 2007, Jenny Craig saw another lucrative opportunity, and made a celebrity addition to her team, Valerie Bertinelli, the loveable Barbara Cooper on "One Day at a Time". Valerie confessed that she adopted this particular diet because she was impressed with Kirstie's progress in the battle to lose weight. Valerie's aim was to lose 30 pounds on the Jenny Craig program, and in September 2007, she realized her goal.

Nutrisystem celebrity diet

Nutrisystem was created in 1972. It started out marketing a liquid protein diet, which was abandoned in 1978 due to growing competition, and then it switched to selling pre-packaged meals designed to aid in weight loss. The company went bankrupt in the early 90's, and re-emerged in 1999.

Nutrisystem's method of operation relies on providing all the food for its clients, in order for them to remain true to their prescribed diet. Each and every meal is pre-packaged and sent to the client, rendering the diet simple to adhere to and relatively easy to maintain. However, Nutrisystem's diet program is particularly geared toward weight loss, and does not focus on weight maintenance.

Tori Spelling

One eager advocate of Nutrisystem is Tori Spelling. She recently joined the program to shed some weight following the birth of her son. Tori admitted that she has never had weight issues in the past and was therefore looking for a quick loss program. This method is dramatically different from the one that Jenny Craig employs.

Summary

Nutrisystem is effective in helping its overweight clients shed those stubborn pounds quickly, but may not help them in keeping them off. The pre-packaged meals may aid clients in understanding portion control, but the program does not incite them to make future healthy food choices on their own.Jenny Craig Inc. also employs the use of pre-packaged meals, but when clients have lost half of their goal weight, the plan switches gears. Clients are then encouraged to start making their own meals, employing the techniques and tips they have learned thus far in the Jenny Craig program.

Do we "buy" it?

All you have to do is turn on the television to see that using celebrities to endorse products must be working brilliantly. We can observe tennis pro Maria Sharapova selling us Canon digital cameras, or Ellen Degeneres singing the praises of American Express, or Nicole Kidman pushing Chanel No. 5, and so on, so forth. When consumers wish to buy a certain product, they want to believe that the celebrity spokesperson is promising a good investment. So, just as we prefer golfer Tiger Woods selling us sporting equipment, and the stunning Halle Berry selling us cosmetics, we most definitely want a former "Fat Actress" selling us a weight loss program (a Celebrity Diet!).

Celebrity Diets: Hilary Duffs Sexy Slimdown Plan!

Celebrity Diets: Hilary Duffs Sexy Slimdown Plan!

Hilary Duff has been in the media spotlight since a young age. Her weight has been criticized by the media and we have seen it shrink and rise. She's now found a happy medium and isn't too strict on herself. Her biggest slim down was a result of eating small meals throughout the day and cutting out big things like french fries. "I saw such a big difference so fast! Now I'm like, yes, this is awesome! And I am still full all the time, the 17-year-old says. But Duff insists she doesn't want to become super-skinny: I like to look normal."

She did at one stage shrink to 45kgs and as she looks back has decided that she never ever wants to be that thin again. And we believe her too! The size 0 has overtaken Hollywood and celebrities are starving themselves in order to look 'fashionable'. We will talk more about this later.

Hilary Duff has admitted to feeling that pressure in the past like many other stars in society today. She may have cracked for a short while but soon realized that her behavior wasn't healthy. While we never will know how exactly she shrunk to a dangerously low 45kg (unless she reveals this in the future?).

Here is what the Duffster told Self Magazine in an interview regarding her workout.

"I try to do pilates three times a week. It's hard, though, because now I've told all my friends about my pilates instructor and my little secret place and now I can't even get my own appointment! I'll also go to the gym with my sister and friend and do cardio."

When asked what sort of cardio she does..

"I run on the treadmill. I start off in a power walk on a high incline to warm up so I won't get cramps and stuff, and then I'll lower it. I can't jog on an incline. I'd be so tired! I also do the elliptical. I get really out of breath and get a headache on the treadmill, so the elliptical is better. Also, it works your arms."

Duff also credits pilates for her weight loss.

"Seriously, my body changed in three weeks. I've always been really muscular; that's why pilates is good for me. I have broad shoulders and if I do weights or something I'll bulk up and feel manly, but pilates lengthens me out. Also you feel really powerful."

Hilary Duff is happy and healthy. She certainly looks better than ever, her body is lean and toned and her diet allows her to eat! Celebrities such as Hilary Duff are a positive role model for younger girls.

Being the star hit TV series Lizzy Mcquire (which is targeted at a very young girls) she needs to maintain a healthy image. Children are smarter than you may think, they see things around them and mimic the behavior and idolize the body image that celebrities out there are portraying.

We hope that Hilary Duff keeps up the good work when it comes to sending out a positive message to the younger generation. Stars spend too much time counting calories and worrying about how skinny and emancipated they can make themselves look.

The size zero trend has taken of Hollywood and adolescent girls from all over the world are starving to look like some stars. The younger generation don't realize that this is an unhealthy body image and struggle to achieve it.

Some of the youngest cases of anorexia are reported to be girls as young as four, who refuse to eat their food because they do not want to get fat. Some teenagers reportedly take drugs such as speed and cocaine in a bid to lose weight.

Drugs are definitely not a part of Hilary Duffs lifestyle and we are thankful to her!

We hope that one day our children will be able to grow up in a society where it is acceptable to have a regular body. Curves are natural and beautiful, young girls need to embrace their bodies and understand that it is normal and healthy to have womanly hips.

The hardest part for girls who hit puberty is not just periods; it is the size of their hips and developing curves. Hilary Duff is living proof that embracing a curvy body is beautiful.

Hilary Duff needs to be commended on the message she is sending out to society! We hope she continues down this path and continues to lead a very successful television and singing career for many years to come!

What are the Most Popular Diets In Hollywood?| What do these Diets Consist of?

What are the Most Popular Diets In Hollywood?| What do these Diets Consist of?

Our friends the celebrities, well we feel like they are. They are so much a part of lives we can hardly make it through the day without seeing one of them in a magazine, on TV, or on the internet. We look and wonder what it would be like to be them. What it would be like to have their money, clothes, car, and jewelry. But most often we wonder what it would be like to have their looks and their bodies. At least one time we all have said "If I looked like...than I would be rich and famous". Come on, you haven't... really. You are probably thinking it right now! So we go searching for the most Popular Diets in Hollywood to find out which diet our celebrity used to get fit and trim.

In one of my previous articles title "What are the Most Popular Celebrity Diets?" I discussed and gave an opinion on The Zone Diet, The Atkins Diet, and the Sugar Busters Diet. In this article I will discuss and give an opinion on more of the Popular Diets in Hollywood and why I think you should look to an alternative program that will not force you to guess how to do the program and not cost you nearly as much.

Here are some of the Popular Diets in Hollywood:

The South Beach Diet- Great Diet program you can get customized diets, recipes and food guides, weight tracker tools, and news letters. This diets works by utilizing "3 phases" in the first phase you will have to completely cut out carbohydrates. That's 2 weeks without bread, rice, potatoes, pasta, or baked goods. No fruit, even. You also won't eat candy, cake, cookies, ice cream, or sugar for two weeks. Also, no beer or alcohol. Yikes! I don't know about you but that's seems pretty rough to me. On top of this in order to keep receiving support from the website you need to pay for a membership. You will need to pay 5 dollars per week in order to have access to the tools you'll need to stay on track. After 2 months you will have paid after one year you will have spent 0 in membership fees. I know gyms that are cheaper than that.
The GI Diet- Developed by Dr. David Jenkins who is a professor of nutrition at the University of Toronto. The GI (glycemic index) measures the speed at which foods are broken down by the body to form glucose, the body's source of energy. High G.I. foods break down quickly and leave you looking for the next food fix. Low G.I. foods break down more slowly and leave you feeling fuller, longer.
